For me, it goes to the Chinese idea of Yin and Yang. We all have both good and evil within us; every religion and spirituality agrees with that. The best of us has the same potential to act selfishly as the worst of us has to act heroically. I think what religion and spirituality offer is an anchor to achieve balance in our lives, not completely purge one side or the other.
"I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong."
"... I believe in peace, love and understanding."
- John Lennon
